► American Red Cross: Blood Services

Who they are: They group uses blood donations to provide hospitals with the blood products needed for patients.

What they need: Volunteers to conduct blood drives.

► Athens Area Habitat for Humanity

Who they are: A nonprofit organization dedicated to the elimination of substandard housing in Clarke, Oconee and Oglethorpe counties.

What they need: Volunteers to work at the ReStore, Habitat's thrift store, which takes in new and used home furnishings for resell to the public.

► The Stable Foundation

Who they are: Foundation dedicated to ending homelessness in Athens.

What they need: Volunteers to assist in their office on Wednesdays and Fridays. Volunteers should be comfortable with the following tasks/skills: Written and oral communication; Windows 97-2003/Windows 7 (Microsoft office) software; fax; e-mails; answering phone; and generating reports. Must be able to lift 10 to 20 pounds.

► St. Mary's Hospice

Who they are: Organization that provides compassion and personalized care to seriously ill patients.

What they need: Volunteers to work in the retail thrift store.

► True Love Canine Rescue

Who they are: A volunteer-based organization committed to working responsibly as they rescue, foster and ultimately find permanent homes for abandoned and unwanted dogs in Georgia.

What they need: Foster homes for rescued dogs. The organization will provide food, collar and cover all medical expenses. Foster homes required to provide a safe and nurturing environment for dogs to temporarily live.

► The Tree House Inc.

Who they are: A nonprofit organization whose mission is to reduce the impact and occurrence of child abuse through counseling, educating, support and nurturing children and families in Barrow, Banks and Jackson counties.

What they need: Volunteers for the annual yard sale to help set up, organize, help customers and clean up.

► United Hospice

Who they are: An organization that strives to provide emotional, spiritual and medical support to terminally ill people.

What they need: Volunteers to provide companionship, help with errands and chores, provide short respite for caregivers, help with paperwork and assist in recruitment. Volunteers are asked to volunteer at least once a month.

► VistaCare Hospice

Who they are: Provides hospice care to patients in Athens and surrounding counties while supporting their caregivers and families.

What they need: Seeking volunteers to provide companionship and support for hospice patients, their families and caregivers. Also seeking administrators.
